Mayor of Braidwood dies after 3 months in office

BRAIDWOOD, Ill. — Authorities in the Will County city of Braidwood say the mayor has died after serving three months in office.

The Herald-News in Joliet reports 65-year-old Jerry Pressley died Monday. He won the April 5 mayoral election by receiving 46 percent of the vote. He had a wife and two children.

Pressley was a native of North Carolina, but lived in Braidwood with his family for 20 years. He owned an automobile dealership.

Pressley told the newspaper when he was running for mayor that he wanted "to improve the town — get the town back on track." He also was a member of the Braidwood Area Chamber of Commerce and supported the Braidwood Baseball and Softball Association. Braidwood is about 20 miles south of Joliet.

Pressley's funeral is scheduled for Friday.
