McHenry County students win fine arts scholarships

The Woodstock Fine Arts Association recently hosted its annual Talent Showcase at the Woodstock Opera House. Ten McHenry County high school seniors were honored. After a talent presentation by the graduates, each student was presented the Woodstock Fine Arts Association Helen Wright Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

The recipients are Tina Lebar, Johnsburg High School; Alex Johnson, Crystal Lake South High School; Claire Kelly, Cary Grove High School; Mitch Ennis, Marian Central High School; Izora Baltys, Marian Central High School; Chandler Ellison, Johnsburg High School; Alexa Barkocy, Crystal Lake Central High School; Grace Papadopoulos, Woodstock High School; Dylan McCartin, Woodstock High School; and Katie Sprague, Marengo High School.

In the spring of 2011, the WFAA also gave $1,000 to the young men's a cappella group, Standing Room Only, from Woodstock High School. The group used the money to help defray the expenses of their trip to New York City to compete in the International Competition for high school a cappella groups. It was an opportunity for the WFAA to fulfill its mission statement to support young people in their pursuit of the arts.
