Palatine teen pleads guilty to damaging mailboxes

The second of three teens who police say damaged mailboxes last winter while driving in a car that did not belong to them pleaded guilty to the charges recently in Rolling Meadows.

Palatine resident Joshua Rupe pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property, a class 2 felony, and was sentenced to 24 months probation and seven days in jail. The judge placed the 18-year-old Rupe on intensive probation for the first 12 months which requires him to submit to random drug tests and perform community service among other obligations.

The judge also ordered Rupe to pay $4,085.88 in restitution.

Prosecutors say Rupe and co-defendants Robert Wagner and Alyssa Kessel drove down the 700 block of Revere Lane in Palatine opening the car’s doors as they passed mailboxes. Damage to the car and the mailboxes totaled more than $8,600, prosecutors said.

Wagner, 18, also of Palatine, pleaded guilty to damaging property last month and was also sentenced to 24 months probation, community service and restitution. Kessel, 18, of Elmhurst, next appears in court on July 25.
