1 killed when taxi hits parking garage in Chicago

CHICAGO — Authorities say one person was killed when a taxi crashed into a parking garage in downtown Chicago on Monday morning.

Fire officials say two others were taken to a nearby hospital in serious to critical condition. The injured were believed to be the taxi driver and a woman who had to be extricated from the taxi's back seat.

Witness 23-year-old Alex Perrin told the Chicago Tribune he saw a Checker cab moving fast on Illinois Street. Perrin says the cab appeared to cut off another cab, veered and hit a man on the sidewalk on the north side of Illinois.
