Articles unfairly imply guilt

As a fan of Jack’s Pizzeria and Burgers in Waukegan and Grayslake, I was dismayed to read the articles about the recent arrest of one of the “owners” and allegations that drugs were being sold at the restaurant. The more I thought about it, the more questions I had.

After reading these articles, I got the impression we don’t even need a jury due to the overwhelming evidence. The person arrested is already guilty and Jack’s Pizza is at the center of some drug-dealing operation. Yet, I’d like to know if drugs were being sold there, why is the restaurant still open? Why were none of the other employees even taken in for questioning, let alone arrested? Who and where are the other 19 people who were indicted? Why were Anna and Louie Papandreou, the owners of Jack’s, not arrested or interviewed by the papers to tell their side of the story? To me, this all does not make sense.

First, it was the owner’s son who was arrested and not the actual owners. He was arrested at his own home and not at the restaurant. It’s ridiculous to assume Jack’s Pizza is the center of a drug dealing operation, yet is still allowed to remain open. I know the owners of Jack’s. They are hardworking people just trying to make a living and are now feeling the effects from the negative public opinion created by these articles.

I give Anna and Louie a lot of credit for continuing to operate such a great restaurant under these conditions. Until conspiracy charges are filed against Jack’s Pizza, I will continue to eat there and I encourage all fans of Jack’s to do the same. All I ask is for justice to be served.
