McHenry man gets 4th DUI in 14 months

A 19-year-old McHenry man has been charged with his fourth DUI in 14 months after a dirt bike crash on River Road Tuesday night, according to police.Christopher E. Benjamin has been charged with aggravated DUI and driving on a suspended license following the accident at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday night, said Sgt. Karen Groves of the McHenry County Sheriff#146;s Department. He was also issued traffic citations for driving without insurance, driving without headlights, driving without eye protection, driving a motorcycle without registration and improper lane usage, Groves said. If found guilty of the aggravated DUI offense, Benjamin could spend up to a year behind bars, officials said. Benjamin was driving the lightness dirt bike south down the middle of Chapel Hill Road with a 15-year-old girl on the back when he laid the bike down just before running into a car, Groves said.Benjamin and the female were taken to Centegra Hospital #8212; McHenry following the crash, authorities said, but Benjamin was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after checking in at the McHenry hospital. He was released from Condell with several broken bones Wednesday. The female was treated for minor injuries and was released from the McHenry Hospital, officials said. McHenry County court records show Benjamin is already facing three separate charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, and that all have been continued numerous times and are awaiting trial.He was first charged with DUI on April 27, 2010, again on Aug. 14, 2010, and for a third time on April 21, 2011, officials said. Benjamin was also charged with driving a watercraft under the influence on July 8, 2010.
