Elk Grove man busted on drug charges
An Elk Grove Village man was jailed after police discovered cocaine and a loaded handgun in his home, authorities said Saturday.
John Gawlik, 60, of the 1200 block of Leeds Lane, was charged with manufacturing and delivering cocaine, a felony, and misdemeanor possession of a firearm without a firearm owner’s identification card.
Gawlik was arrested Friday afternoon after Schaumburg police went to his home with a search warrant. Inside, police found nearly 46 grams of cocaine and a digital scale, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Hailey Peck said during a bond hearing Saturday at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
Officers also recovered a loaded .380-caliber pistol and $6,603 cash, Peck said.
Among the bills was $40 that had been marked by investigators for an earlier drug purchase, Peck said.
Gawlik has prior drug-related arrests dating back to the 1990s, Peck said.
A Schaumburg police spokesman had no information about the investigation Saturday.
Judge Edward N. Pietrucha set Gawlik’s bond at $75,000. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 23.
