Sky acquires Naperville’s Wisdom-Hylton

The Chicago Sky acquired a former suburban star from Naperville from the Los Angeles Sky in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2012.

No, the Sky didn’t get WNBA all-star Candace Parker, but they did land a former prep star who gave Parker some of her biggest battles in high school — former Neuqua Valley star Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton.

“We’re very excited to bring Lindsay to the team,” said Pokey Chatman, the Sky’s general manager and head coach. “She is an experienced player that’s been on a champion caliber team. She’ll bring us a skill set we need at her position and add flexibility and depth to the front line. We’re also happy to be able to bring her back home to Chicago.”

Wisdom-Hylton, a 6-foot-2 forward and the 13th overall draft pick in 2009 out of Purdue, averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 61 career games with the Sparks.

A standout at Purdue, Wisdom-Hylton averaged 13.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in her senior season after sitting out her junior year while recovering from ACL surgery. She was named to the All-Big Ten First Team two times and the All-Defensive Big Ten team three times in her career. She left Purdue as the Boilermakers’ all-time leader in rebounds and blocked shots, and ranked second in career double-doubles with 25.

At Neuqua Valley, where Wisdom-Hylton battled Parker’s Naperville Central teams for four years, she became the first female in Illinois high school history to record 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists, 500 blocked shots and 500 steals.

In her most recent action, Wisdom-Hylton played 11 games for first-place Elitzur Ramla of the Israeli League, averaging 11.9 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 62 percent from the field.

Roster update:In a related roster move, the Sky announced it released forward Linda Frolich, who played at UNLV and signed as a free agent. The Sky roster now stands at 12 with the WNBA season opener on Saturday at Indiana.
