One injured in motorcycle accident near Antioch

A 32-year-old man was critically injured when he lost control of a motorcycle while traveling at a high rate of speed near Antioch late Sunday afternoon, police said.

Eric Fassbinder was heading east on Grass Lake Road when he hit some gravel while riding a 1981 Kawasaki motorcycle, said Sgt. Wayne Hunter of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The bike slipped out of control on the curve and slid into a tree, Hunter said.

Drugs and alcohol didn’t seem to be a factor in the crash, he said, but the driver seemed to be traveling at a high rate of speed just before the accident at 4:48 p.m.

A Flight for Life helicopter was originally summoned to the scene east at Drexel Boulevard, but stormy weather forced emergency crews to change plans and drive him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Hunter said Fassbinder is suffering from a head injury and multiple broken bones, though the injuries seem to be nonlife threatening.

Officials said the man did not have a motorcycle license and was also driving on a suspended driver’s license.

No citations have been issued at this time, Hunter said.
