Garrett Wolfe arrested in Miami

Any chance that running back Garrett Wolfe had of returning to the Bears this season probably evaporated with his arrest in Miami on Sunday morning.

In a story first reported by Pro Football Talk, Wolfe was arrested on charges of retail theft, disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer and resisting arrest with violence. According to online records, he is currently jailed on total bond of $11,500.

Since being drafted by the Bears in the third round out of Northern Illinois in 2007, the 5-foot-7, 185-pound Wolfe has struggled to find a niche in the offense, although he has been a key contributor on special teams the past three seasons.

Since Wolfe was not tendered a contract offer by the Bears after last season, he will be an unrestricted free agent whenever there is a labor settlement.

Wolfe, who was a record-setting running back at Holy Cross High School in River Grove before becoming the fourth player in NCAA Division-I with three straight 1,500-yard rushing seasons, had just 4 carries for 8 yards last season. But he tied for second on the team with 18 special-teams tackles.

He has 72 carries in his four-year career for 282 yards and a 4.0-yard average. He also has 11 receptions for 129 yards, an 11.7-yard average.
