Police: truck in Carpentersville crash had right of way

It appears that the 53-year-old pickup truck driver who struck a Corvette Tuesday evening in Carpentersville had the right of way, police said Wednesday.

The two-vehicle crash took place at about 6:20 p.m. at Randall and Huntley roads. A 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck, driven by a man from Gilberts, was headed south on Randall Road through the intersection. A 2000 Corvette driven by a 73-year-old Carpentersville man sitting next to his 72-year-old wife, was headed north on Randall Road and tried to turn left onto Huntley Road against the light, police said.

Witnesses told police the light on Randall Road was green, while the light on Huntley Road was red, according to a news release.

The truck hit the Corvette on the passenger’s side, where the wife was seated.

As of Tuesday evening she was in critical condition and in the intensive care unit at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Police were not releasing anyone’s identity Wednesday and had no information on her condition.

Meanwhile, both the driver of the Corvette and the driver of the pickup were taken by ambulance to Sherman Hospital in Elgin with nonlife-threatening injuries, officials said.

No one has been cited in the crash thus far, Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.
