Township collector to be new trustee

Schaumburg Township Collector Jeff Mytych will succeed the late Richard Taccini as a new township trustee later this month.

But Mytych’s swearing-in May 25 will also set in motion the search for a new collector, Schaumburg Township Supervisor Mary Wroblewski said.

Mytych, a Republican, is in his first term as collector and was among 12 applicants for the trustee vacancy.

He was chosen because of his existing regular attendance of township meetings and his heavy involvement with other aspects of the township, Wroblewski said.

“He’s up to date on township issues,” she added.

Mytych was not immediately available for comment Tuesday.

He received both his Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and his Master of Business Administration from Elmhurst College.

Mytych also serves as a director on the Schaumburg Township Human Services fund and as a Republican precinct captain. He is married and has two daughters.

Taccini, 70, died April 3 after suffering a cardiac arrest nine days earlier. The law requires that his successor be not only a resident of the township but a member of the same political party.

The same now applies in the search for Mytych’s successor. From his swearing-in on the 25th, the township will have 60 days to appoint a new collector.

The same procedure will be used as in the search for Taccini’s replacement, with the township soliciting applications from interested and eligible members of the public, Wroblewski said.
