BACOG director to stay after DUI

Barrington Area Council of Governments Executive Director Janet Agnoletti is expected to retain her position after her April 22 arrest by Barrington police on a charge of driving under the influence.

Agnoletti, 57, of the 200 block of Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington, is charged with having a blood-alcohol level over .08 percent, having no proof of insurance and improper lane use after a traffic stop at the intersection of Hough and Liberty streets.

She has a court date of June 3 at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

Agnoletti was out of town and unavailable for comment Monday.

Tower Lakes Village President Kathleen Leitner, this year’s chair of the BACOG board, released a statement on behalf of the board.

“The BACOG Board is aware of the recent incident involving BACOG Executive Director Janet Agnoletti,” the statement reads. “The BACOG Board views this as a personal matter for which Ms. Agnoletti takes full responsibility and is handling appropriately. The Board continues to have full confidence in Ms. Agnoletti’s ability to effectively lead BACOG and to discharge her responsibilities.”

Leitner praised Agnoletti’s leadership over the decade since she succeeded BACOG’s founding director, Don Klein. An important example of Agnoletti’s initiatives has been the ongoing three-dimensional charting of the Barrington area’s underground water resources and its use in planning, Leitner said.

“She’s been a great leader,” Leitner said. “She continues to be a very powerful and forceful voice in Springfield for us. She’s been a lobbyist for our whole area. We are in full support of Janet.”

BACOG was created in 1970 as a planning tool and a unified voice for the Barrington area. Its board consists of the village presidents of Barrington, Barrington Hills, Deer Park, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington and Tower Lakes, as well as the supervisors of Barrington and Cuba townships.
