Round Lake Park cops get first union deal

Round Lake Park police officers locked in their first union contract this week after the village board ratified its end of the deal.

Mayor Jean McCue said village board trustees Tuesday night voted 6-0 in favor of the officers’ two-year contract. Under the agreement, the officers will receive a 1 percent raise this year and 2 percent in 2012.

McCue said the deal will cover nine Round Lake Park police officers. The officers gained representation by the Metropolitan Alliance of Police union after the minimum 30 percent filed for a certification election with the Illinois Labor Relations Board.

Police began negotiating with village officials roughly six months ago. McCue said the union contract was achieved over two bargaining sessions.

“It went very smoothly,” she said.

Elsewhere in Lake County, Gurnee police received a 5 percent base salary raise on April 30. Gurnee trustees in October approved a two-year contract with its Illinois Fraternal Order of Police union members retroactive to May 1, 2010.
