Palatine man charged with sexual abuse held without bail

A Palatine man sentenced to 24 months’ probation in March on charges of sexual abuse appeared in court Tuesday to face new charges that he abused a young girl.

Douglas E. Medrano, 21, of the 1900 block of North Green Lane, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl he met last month, prosecutors said.

On Saturday, he kissed and groped the girl and tried to push her into his apartment, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Cotter.

A judge set Medrano’s bail at $75,000. But because Medrano was on probation at the time of his arrest, the judge ordered him held without bail, Cotter said.

Medrano will appear in court on Friday to faces charges he violated his probation. He next appears in court on the new case on May 23.

If convicted of the class two felony, Medrano could be sentenced to three to seven years in prison. Probation is also possible.
