Hypocrisy is oozing from the right

It was another week of hypocrisy from the right. Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl lied about Planned Parenthood on the floor of the U.S. Senate, then said his lie “wasn’t meant to be a factual statement.” Then, after spending much of the last two years warning about nonexistent “death panels,” the Republicans in the House passed a budget that actually eliminates Medicare completely.

Promoter of “Christian values” Cal Thomas wrote an opinion piece praising libertarian Ayn Rand and her philosophy of self-interest above all else. I don’t know how the former vice president of Moral Majority could be a fan of Rand, who was not only an atheist but believed that greed was a virtue and charity was a vice, unless it’s really just about the money.

But Harold Knudsen (Fence Post, April 16) takes the cake. A self-described “person of faith”, he writes, much like nonbeliever Rand, that the “moral test of a society” is how it treats it’s most successful citizens. What? Harold, how does a person of faith simply ignore the teachings of Jesus? For example: “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all” and “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

And, “If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.”

I could go on Harold, but you get the point. No, I’ll bet you don’t.
