Carpentersville sergeants agree to union pact

The Carpentersville police union that represents sergeants has inked a deal with the village that includes small pay increases, no retroactive pay and physical screenings.

Under the deal, there will be no pay increase from May 1, 2010, through April 30, 2011. But a 2-percent raise from May 1 through April 30, 2012 and a 1-percent raise from May 1, 2012, to April 30, 2013, are included.

Moreover, the eight sergeants agreed to a reduction in holiday and personal day pay and to drop both an unfair labor practice claim and an insurance grievance against the village. The contract also calls for physical fitness tests to promote wellness and reduce employee injuries.

The sergeants, represented by the Metropolitan Alliance of Police Chapter 379, have been working without a contract since April 30, 2010. Rank-and-file officers are in the midst of their own contract negotiations with the village.
