Marmion art teacher named Visual Arts Educator of the Year

Marmion Academy art instructor Lisa Dzuricsko was awarded the Illinois Alliance for Arts Education Visual Arts Educator of the Year Award at the organization’s 29th annual Service Recognition Awards Ceremony March 17.

Dzuricsko teaches Introduction to Art, Digital Design and Studio Art and serves as director of the Dr. Scholl’s Art Gallery, which hosts six shows each year.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, she received the Notre Dame Alumni of the Year Award in 2000 from the ND Naperville/Lisle Club.

One of Dzuricsko’s most exciting innovations was turning Marmion’s annual homecoming bonfire into the world’s largest kiln. Each year, students prepare hundreds of ceramics pieces that are loaded into metal drums, which are then placed at the center of the bonfire, which burns at temperatures of 1,100 degrees.

Dzuricsko is an accomplished artist and her pieces are exhibited throughout the Chicago area.

Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory high school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence and leadership development.
