Bandits hold hit and run competition

The Chicago Bandits and Rosemont Park District will be hosting the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch Hit and Run competition beginning at noon Saturday, May 14, at the Rosemont Park District, 6140 Scott St.

Registration before the event is encouraged. Each participant must send a copy of their birth certificate with their registration form. Participants should also bring a copy of their birth certificate with them to the actual competition.

The skills challenge is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the fun element of competition, while providing youngsters across the country an opportunity to participate in an exciting baseball/softball skills competition.

Aquafina Pitch, Hit and Run is open to boys and girls, ages 7-14. Contestants begin on the local level with Rosemont Park District and the Bandits, then if they beat others in their age group, they’ll move on to a sectional competition and ultimately a National Championship.

The pitching competition will test a contestants ability to throw strikes into a specified “strike zone.” From there, competitors will test their hitting ability by seeing how far and how accurately they can hit a ball off a tee. Finally, for the running competition, participants will take off from second base, touch third base and finish at home plate.

Each event is individually scored and converted to a total point score. The first Place All-Around, Pitching, Hitting and Running Champions in each age group will advance to the sectional competition.

The winner of each age group will receive two free club tickets to the Chicago Bandits vs Bloomington Lady Hearts game on Saturday, June 4, and will be recognized on the field for their achievement.
