The victim, who was shot three times, is recovering from surgery at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Deputy Police Chief Alan Stoeckel said.

No arrests have been made.

The victim, who is able to talk, told investigators someone drove up to him in the parking lot, exchanged words with him and then he was shot. The victim said he didn't recognize the shooter and wasn't sure how many people occupied the four-door sedan.

Stoeckel said that there's no preliminary indication the shooting was gang related, and police are investigating a possible motive.

The Palatine Police Department asks that anyone with information call (847) 359-9000.
