Special needs meeting scheduled with legislators

A meeting for special needs parents, educators and professionals will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday April 30, at the Schaumburg Township center, 1 Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates.

Sponsored by Gerry Bartnicke of the Schaumburg Disabilities office and Mike Baker of the Autism Society of America, the group will meet with state Reps. Michelle Mussman, 56th District and Fred Crespo, 44th District, to talk about special needs issues, proposed budget cuts of special needs services and the upcoming budget votes in Springfield in May.

Baker is requesting that attendees RSVP, and submit questions in writing beforehand, because of the need to maximize the available time and to focus only on special needs issues.

Send questions and RSVPs to Baker at mbaker721@comcast.net.

Questions that are not answered during the event will get answered by the legislators in a timely manner. People who cannot attend may also submit questions.

“Please take the time to take advantage of this opportunity to come and talk to people who can make a difference in improving the education and services for special needs children and adults in the state,” Baker said.
