Bail increased for Round Lake Beach teacher

A Lake County judge increased the bond Friday for a Round Lake Beach teacher accused of molesting four children.

Associate Judge Raymond Collins ordered Manuel Reyes, 55, held on $250,000 after Reyes was brought to court on a $100,000 bond arrest warrant.

Assistant State’s Attorney Stephen Scheller said Reyes, of Kenosha, Wis., inappropriately touched the four children between Aug. 18 of last year and March 23.

Round Lake Beach police were alerted by a tip from a parent of one of the victims, Scheller said.

Reyes is a third-grade teacher at Raymond Ellis Elementary School and a six-year teacher in Round Lake Area Unit District 116. He was arrested at his home last week and waived his right to an extradition hearing Thursday.

Collins ordered Reyes, who faces up to five years in prison if convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, to appear in court Tuesday, April 12.
