Hanover Park man charged with child pornography

A 34-year-old Hanover Park man faces an aggravated child pornography charge alleging he took photos of a juvenile while the child was using his bathroom.

Kevin Cowley, of the 7000 Block of Astor Avenue, was arrested earlier this week on the felony charge stemming from an investigation launched late last year. Bond was set at $60,000 this morning in Cook County court in Rolling Meadows, officials said.

Hanover Park Police Chief David Webb said officers initially were called to Cowley's apartment Nov. 29.

The call was made after someone living in the home found images of a juvenile on Cowley's computer, Hanover Park Police Deputy Chief Tom Cortese said.

Investigators returned with a search warrant the next day and seized two computers from the residence. The computers were examined by the FBI Computer Forensics Lab, where analysts found images taken while the child was in the bathroom of Cowley's apartment, police said.

“It took some time to analyze, which is normal because of the volume of cases like this,” Cortese said.

The only pictures found on the computers were that of the victim, according to police.

“This extensive investigation was a good example of law enforcement agencies working together,” Webb said.

Aggravated child pornography is a felony punishable by a maximum three to seven years in prison.
