District 203 incumbents coast to victory

All three incumbents in Naperville Unit District 203 cruised to easy victories Tuesday night in what they considered a mandate to maintain their current approach to overseeing the school system.

With all precincts reporting, Suzyn Price led all candidates with 7,596 votes, followed by Mike Jaensch with 6,955 and Terry Fielden with 6,187.

Challengers Jay Fisher and Bethany Weeks finished with 4,757 and 4,169 votes respectively.

This will be Price’s third term, making her the board’s senior member. Jaensch and Fielden won their second terms.

The victors saw Tuesday’s results as a seal of approval from the district’s voters.

“Tonight the voters told us things are going well and we’re all doing a great job,” Price said. “People are saying they see the value in our education, the finished products of our construction and they’re satisfied with our work. Obviously if people were unhappy, tonight would have gone differently.”

Jaensch, who serves as board president, said he was happy to be recognized for the work he has put in during the past four years.

“But those were the last four years,” Jaensch said. “Now that we’ve been given the green light to continue, this is no time to rest on our laurels. We’ve got to keep working hard.”
