Incumbent Perez ousted in West Aurora school race

Incumbents Angela Smith and Allyson Herget were re-elected to the West Aurora District 129 school board Tuesday, according to unofficial vote totals.
They will be joined by Amie Thompson as incumbent Maricela Perez, the first Hispanic trustee, lost.
Herget received 23 percent of the 14,360 ballots cast, Smith 22 percent and Thompson 18 percent. Perez and Bob Gonzalez had 17 percent apiece.
Perez was appointed to the board in 2009.
Thompson is an administrator in neighboring East Aurora school district 131. Gonzalez is an insurance agent.
The district draws children from Montgomery, Sugar Grove, Aurora, North Aurora and Batavia.
Trustee Jim Toynton decided to step down after just one term.
