Elk Grove stays hot at Glenbrook South

A couple of streaks continued for the Elk Grove softball team Monday in Glenview.

Senior second baseman Jessica Balzano ran her hitting streak to 40 games and Dani Goranson made it 28 straight innings without giving up an earned run as the Grenadiers topped Glenbrook South 14-1 in five innings.

Goranson (5-1) struck out eight and did not give up a hit in the first three innings.

The junior right-hander was relieved by Andrea Starr, who struck out three in the final two innings.

Multiple hitters for the Grens (5-1) were Balzano (2-for-2, 2 walks), Goranson (3-for-3, 2-run homer, 4 RBI), Megan Keegan (2-for-4), Kristen Cetkovic (2-for-4) and Becca Walz (2-for-2, 2-run homer, double).

Schaumburg 8, Larkin 2: Schaumburg (3-1) belted 15 hits, including back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth inning by Brianne Lingl (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Alyssa Lancaster (3-for-4, 3 RBI).

Jenna Lane (RBI, walk) and Courtney Raschk each went 2-for-3 for the Saxons while teammates Alexis Carrevetta and Aubrey Lopshire were 2-for-4.

Junior Renee Kakareka (2-0) threw a 6-hitter for the win.

“The girls really came at the plate through toward the end of the game,” said first -year Schaumburg coach Ellen Stoddard. “We had a lot of solid contact at the plate with 15 hits. It was really fun to see Brianne and Alyssa hit back-to-back home runs. The girls work hard and come ready to play every day.”

Maine West 5, Rolling Meadows 2: Maine West (2-4), home on the scoreboard but playing at Rolling Meadows, scored 4 runs in the top of the first and never looked back.

Senior Nicole Mavraganis had a 2-run single in that first inning while winning pitcher Ariel Valles (3 strikeouts) and Cruz (2-for-3) each added RBI singles.

Holly Wengerski and Alyssa Bojarski were also 2-for-3 for West.

Senior catcher Kelly Keyzer was 2-for-3 for Meadows (4-2), which received 2 strikeouts from sophomore pitcher Sara Brunlieb (3-1).

Abby Matayka had an RBI single for Meadows in the sixth inning and Emily Hattory added an RBI groundout for the final run.

Niles North 6, St. Viator 3: Lions junior shortstop Alex Flasch collected 3 hits, including 2 doubles and her first home run in the first inning which gave Viator a 1-0 lead.

Senior Kelly O’Brien (2-4) led off the fifth inning with a single and advanced to second by Michelle Presslak.

Pinch hitter Ally Joyce doubled home O’Brien and Sam Hogan singled in Joyce to tie the game at 3-3 before the Vikings scored 3 runs in the bottom of the inning.

St. Viator (1-5) had at least 1 hit and left at least one runner on base in every inning.

“Kristen Cozzi played outstanding at first base by saving several errant throws in order to keep us in the game,” said Lions coach Dan Twarog.

Maine South 10, Hoffman Estates 9: Senior Emily Fett (2-for-2, 2 walks) and freshman Sam Acosta (2-for-4) led the offense for visiting Hoffman Estates (1-5).

Freshman Kaileen Hendle doubled home 3 runs in the top of the seventh when Hoffman took a 9-5 lead.

But Maine South (3-2) rallied with 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh.
