18-year-old charged with burglaries in Grayslake

Grayslake Police said they have caught a man they think has been burglarizing a couple subdivisions since January.

Xavier I. Cruz, 18, of the 500 block of Pheasant Court in Grayslake, has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted burglary to motor vehicle and a single count of residential burglary, said Grayslake Police Cmdr. Matthew McCutcheon.

He was arrested on Tuesday, March 22, McCutcheon said.

He said Cruz has been linked to two car burglaries and one residential burglary in the Chesapeake Farms subdivision in the early morning hours of January 17.

Police evidence technicians recovered physical evidence from several additional burglary scenes from homes in the West Trail and Estates of Eastlake subdivisions, McCutcheon said. Those items have been turned over to the Northern Illinois Police Crime Lab in an effort to link Cruz to more burglaries, McCutcheon said.

Cruz was transported to the Lake County Courthouse for a bond hearing March 24, and is expected to post 10 percent of his $25,000 before he can be released,
