Police looking for information on robbery Sunday

Fox Lake police are searching for a man who held up a Mobil gas station at gunpoint.

Lt. Joe Gliniewicz said officers were called about 6:30 p.m. Sunday by a motorist who saw a man chasing another man wearing a black leather jacket and a face mask on southbound Route 59.

Gliniewicz said the clerk of the gas station at 511 E. Grand Ave. was chasing a robber who had walked into the store, displayed a dark-colored semiautomatic pistol, and demanded the money in the register.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber fled on foot, Gliniewicz said, and the clerk gave chase.

The robber ducked into some woods near Washington Street and Route 59 to elude capture, police said. He was described as a white man in his early to mid 20s and 5-feet, 9-inches to 5-feet, 11-inches tall.

Gliniewicz said the man's description is similar to a person who committed robberies in Round Lake Heights and Antioch. Police have contacted other area departments to determine if the same man could be linked to those crimes.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Fox Lake police at (847) 587-3100.
