Free Service Learning Symposium April 12 at COD
The College of DuPage Service Learning Program and Illinois Campus Compact will host a Service Learning Symposium from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, April 15, at the College's Student Resource Center, Room 1544.
This event is free and open to the public.
The Service Learning Symposium, “Students Impacting the Community Through Service Learning,” will include a keynote presentation by Felecia Thompson, Executive Director for World Vision US-Chicago, who will discuss, “Trails Towards Transformation: Stores from the Field … Students Impacting Social Change.”
After the keynote presentation, participants will have an opportunity to attend a selection of breakout sessions, including: "Service Learning in a Themed Learning Community"; "SOS – What Happens When Unforeseen Challenges Emerge During Service Learning Projects?"; "Learning Outside the Classroom"; "Using Service Learning to Transform a First-Year Speech Class into a Communications Consulting Firm"; "Assessing a Peer Tutoring Practicum"; "Planetary Ethics – Integrating Theory with Practice to Create a Comprehensive Learning Experience"; and "Service vs. Charity – Pitfalls and Challenges."
Continental breakfast and registration will take place from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
