Controversial priest to speak at Elmhurst College

A controversial Chicago priest who is fighting to stay at his church will discuss “What Does Justice Look Like” during an appearance Monday, March 28, at Elmhurst College.

Rev. Michael Pfleger has been in the news again recently as he fights to remain at St. Sabina Catholic Church, despite a rule prohibiting priests from staying at a church for more than 12 years. Pfleger has been at St. Sabina for nearly 30.

He’s scheduled to speak at 4:30 p.m. Monday as part of the college’s third annual Sacred Conversation on Social Justice. His lecture will be in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center at Elmhurst College, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Pfleger has lived and ministered in the African-American community on both the West and South sides of Chicago since 1968. In 1981, at the age of 31, he was appointed to his present position, becoming the youngest pastor in the Chicago archdiocese.
