Chicago man gets 10 years for robbing Des Plaines gas station

A Chicago man who used a flare gun to rob a Des Plaines gas station last September was sentenced this week to 10 years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea to armed robbery, a Class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

Jacquero L. Lanier, 25, entered the gas station about 4 a.m. and started removing items from the shelves, police said. He then pointed an orange, 12-gauge flare gun at the clerk and demanded the clerk open the lottery box and the cash register, police said.

The clerk tried to comply but was unable to open the cash register, so Lanier fled with lottery tickets and other items, police said.

Police located him a short while later riding a bicycle. When they tried to arrest him, the police say he fled on foot into the Cook County Forest Preserve where authorities tracked him down.

Lanier received credit for the 194 days he has spent in custody.
