COD help with Pace route appreciated

As a DuPage County Board member and chairman of the public transit committee, I want to take this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to Dr. Robert Breuder, president of the College of DuPage, and his administration for contribution in the amount of $30,000 to assist in the operational cost of Pace Route 714, or more commonly known as the “College of DuPage Connector.”

This contribution, along with similar appropriations from DuPage Country and the city of Naperville, and the assistance of Pace, will allow this important Route 714, serving various locations within Naperville and Wheaton also to serve the campus of the college in Glen Ellyn. This route has been in service since 2006, with funding assistance in the from of federal grants and contributions from the three governmental units listed above.

The average daily ridership of this route in the month of February was over 300, and the College of DuPage is a principal destination for a majority of those who use this transit service. The continued operation of Route 714 is an identifiable component of the DuPage Area Transit Plan, adopted in 2002 and with an update scheduled for completion later this year.

Given the fiscal constraints imposed on local governments, the contribution from the college has been enormously important. I am particularly grateful for Dr. Breuder’s commitment to the transit service. It is my hope that we can continue to work collaboratively in the months ahead to ensure that this route remains a viable transit option for all who have come to depend upon it.
