Schaumburg man charged in baseball bat assault

A Cook County judge set bail at $200,000 Monday for a Schaumburg man accused of striking two men with a baseball bat outside a local nightclub, leaving one hospitalized in serious condition.

Altin Bajrami, of the 1900 block of Prairie Square, was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following the altercation at about 1 a.m. Saturday.

Bajrami, 28, initially got into an argument with one of the men inside the club, police said. After the argument escalated outside the club, police said, Bajrami retrieved a baseball bat from the trunk of his car and hit the men.

One victim suffered injuries to his head and remained hospitalized Monday in “serious condition,” said Sgt. John Nebl of the Schaumburg Police Department.

No information was available on the relationship between the defendant and victim or what ignited the argument.

If convicted, Bajrami could face a sentence of two to five years in prison. He next appears in court on April 5.
