Women tee up at Des Plaines golf night

The brisk winter night air didn’t deter a dozen golfers for the first Ladies Night at Golf Center Des Plaines Feb. 24. Golfers were invited to an evening on the range and wine and appetizers in the River Room.

“Typically, the temperature in the heated bays is 30 degrees warmer than out in the open air,” said Brian Panek, manager of golf and facilities. “This is a great time of year for golf beginners and aficionados alike to come out and sharpen their skills for the upcoming season.”

GolfTEC pro Tom Portera was also on the range to spend time with each golfer, offering tips on improving their stance and grip, and techniques for improving their swing.

“The change Tom helped me make in my grip made all the difference,” said Des Plaines City Clerk Gloria Ludwig.

The golfers also browsed local vendors set up in the River Room, including Chiro One, which offered free massages, and chatted about health and fitness with a personal trainer.

“Our next event will be the Two-Club Tournament from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 16,” Panek said.

Golfers are invited to select two clubs from their bag and play the entire nine-hole, par-3 course. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: high school male and female ages 14-18, adult male and female ages 18-64, and seniors ages 65 and older. Registration for the event ends April 10.

Golf Center Des Plaines was just named one of the Top 100 ranges in the country for the 10th year in a row by Golf Range magazine. The driving range is open 364 days a year from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. through May 31.
