MCC to host March concerts

Two March concerts at McHenry County College will feature the popular Second Sunday Concert series at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, with woodwind quintet Winds Off The Lake and a special St. Patrick's Day concert featuring Irish music and dance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16.

The Winds Off The Lake musicians include Sue Childress on flute, Joyce Beernink on clarinet, Kathy Krepel on oboe, Randy Sundell on bassoon and Russ Henning on horn performing “Minuet” by Haydn, “As Time Goes By” from “Casablanca” by Hupfeld; “Renaissance Suite” (arranged by Roseman); Overture to “La Forza del Destino” by Verdi; “Swansea Town” by Jacob; and Overture to “Mikado” by Gilbert and Sullivan.

The St. Patrick's Day concert on March 16 will feature Pat Gaughan and L.J. Slavin who will perform favorite Irish songs, ballads and instrumental tunes. The McNulty Irish Dancers will perform traditional Irish jigs, reels and hornpipes, both in soft shoe and hard shoe. McNulty Dancers are recognized internationally as world, national, and Midwest regional champions. Their shows and performances delight crowds throughout the nation.

Gaughan and Slavin have performed together for the past five years, presenting programs of traditional Irish music, folk, and original compositions throughout the Midwest, playing at clubs, festivals, colleges, and headlining concert series. Gaughan and Slavin have played at numerous events such as the Woodstock Opera House, Navy Pier Chicago, Chicago Irish Fest; Celtic Fest Chicago, and St. Catherine's Irish Fest in Dundee, and at clubs in the northwest suburbs and in Galena.

The March concerts are free and take place at the MCC Conference Center on campus at 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. A reception follows each concert. For information, call Michael Hillstrom at (815) 479-7814.
