Roselle man gets 10 years for Itasca Fest stabbing

A Roselle man pleaded guilty to armed violence and was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday for stabbing a man at Itasca Fest last summer.

Prosecutors said Kristopher Sanchez, 22, plunged a knife into the victim's side after the victim, then 20, shoved one of Sanchez's friends.

The attack happened shortly before midnight on July 10, as the festival in Washington Park winded down.

Assistant DuPage County State's Attorney Mary Cronin said the men were walking with different groups when they passed each other and exchanged words.

“The victim shoved somebody and he (Sanchez) took umbrage,” Cronin said.

The victim, who lived in Itasca, was hospitalized in an intensive care unit for several days before recovering, police said.

Sanchez, of the 0-100 block of West Thorndale Avenue, had faced up to 30 years but was sentenced according to an agreement with prosecutors. He had no prior significant criminal history, Cronin said.

By law, Sanchez must serve at least five years, with credit for time served in the county jail since he surrendered last July.

Judge Blanche Hill Fawell accepted the plea agreement.
