2 prison locked down over flu cases

SPRINGFIELD — Two Illinois prisons are keeping inmates locked in their cells because of flu outbreaks.

Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman Sharyn Elman says the Danville Correctional Center in Danville has been on lock down since last week. Inmates at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro were being kept in their cells as of Monday.

Elman said that up to 175 of the 1,836 Danville inmates had flu symptoms. Some cases tested positive for H1N1 flu.

The prison in Hillsboro has 1,900 inmates. It wasn't clear how many were sick.

Elman said the prisons will return to normal when officials see no new flu cases.
