Austin Peay holds off Eastern Illinois 65-56

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — John Fraley and Caleb Brown scored 14 points each and Austin Peay beat Eastern Illinois 65-56 Thursday night, handing the Panthers their ninth consecutive Ohio Valley Conference loss.

Tyshwan Edmonson added 13 points and Josh Terry 12 for the Governors (18-12, 12-5), who shot just 27.6 percent (8 of 29) in the second half after leading 33-23 at halftime.

Free throws helped Austin Peay. The Governors were 15 for 21 from the line in the second half to 5 for 7 by the Panthers (9-19, 4-13). After Eastern Illinois went ahead 36-35 with 14:43 left, Austin Peay made nine free throws during a 16-4 run, to lead 51-40 lead at the 8:35 mark.

Only one free throw was awarded in the first half, and Austin Peay missed it.

The Governors had a 48-38 rebounding edge, with Edmonson and Will Triggs getting 11.

Jeremy Granger scored 15 points and James Hollowell 13 for Eastern Illinois.
