Des Plaines man charged with running cannabis farm

Des Plaines police Tuesday arrested a resident for operating a marijuana farm in his basement and selling the drug throughout the city, authorities said.

Robert Anthony Kohl, 40, of the 1600 block of East Forest Avenue, is charged with one count each of unlawful production of cannabis, unlawful delivery of cannabis, unlawful possession of cannabis and endangering the life and health of a child, according to a police report.

The Des Plaines Tactical Unit conducted an undercover narcotics investigation and obtained a search warrant for Kohl's house.

Police said they found several bags of cannabis weighing roughly 37 pounds throughout the basement, and roughly 33 pounds of cannabis stored inside a freezer on the first floor of the house.

Police also seized other items from the house such as growing lights, fertilizers, seeds, plastic tubs used to grow cannabis by hydroponic means, scale, price list and money, authorities said.

Kohl is scheduled to appear for a hearing at 9 a.m. Friday at the Skokie courthouse.
