Woman guilty of Cary bank heist

A 36-year-old Crystal Lake woman faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday in federal court to robbing a bank in Cary last May of nearly $5,900.

Silk P. Lumpkins admitted that at about 2:20 p.m. May 26, she entered the Chase Bank, 300 Northwest Hwy., disguised in a long blonde wig and baseball cap, and handed the teller a note saying: “If you don’t want to die today, give me all your money. You have 30 seconds to do this,” authorities said in a news release.

The teller turned over $5,876 to Lumpkins, who put it in a blue “Chase” deposit bag and left.

She was arrested on June 2, said the U.S. Attorney’s office, Chicago Bureau of the FBI, Fox River Grove Police and Cary Police in a joint statement.

Lumpkins will be sentenced on May 18 and also faces a maximum fine of $250,000 along with three years supervision after the sentence is completed.
