Prospect beats St. Viator

Prospect’s boys basketball team figured to get a strong offensive boost from its bench Tuesday night.

The Knights started an all-senior lineup for the nonconference game with neighborhood rival St. Viator. That put junior Mike LaTulip, the Mid-Suburban League’s second-leading scorer, on the sideline at the beginning.

It didn’t affect LaTulip at all as he matched his season high of 27 points and Prospect (15-7) won its third straight game 51-42 at Jean Walker Field House.

LaTulip hit three 3-pointers and was 10-for-10 on free throws — including 8 in the fourth quarter. He has made all 24 of his attempts in the last three games.

“They were really hounding him,” said Prospect coach John Camardella. “They defended him really hard.”

But it didn’t stop LaTulip from matching his season-high of 27 points in the second game of the season against St. Patrick. He and teammate Terry Redding had 7 rebounds.

Chris Myjak scored 12 points and D.J. Morris added 10 points for Viator (12-10), which lost its fourth straight and sixth in seven games.

Wheeling 70, Round Lake 36: Wheeling needed a breather after losing in double overtime to Buffalo Grove and in overtime to Maine West over the weekend.

The Wildcats (7-17) got it as freshman Jeremy Stephani scored 17 of his career-high 21 points to lead 39-16 at halftime.

Stephani hit four of his six 3-pointers and Wheeling forced 16 turnovers in the first 16 minutes.

“Tyler (Shapiro) and Nick (Boyd) did a nice job of finding guys in transition,” said Wheeling coach John Clancy. “We’re playing better and we’re gaining a little momentum.”

Ricky Schwind added 15 points and hit three 3s for the Wildcats. Juddon Carter led Round Lake with 10 points.

Glenbrook North 65, Hersey 50: Sean Reszotko’s 11 points led Hersey (13-11) in the nonconference loss in Northbrook. Tom Sutrinaitis and Connor Miklasz scored 9 points apiece and Joe Mailloux added 8 points.

Andrew McAuliffe led the Spartans (17-7) with 28 points.

Glenbard North 57, Hoffman 34: A 23-5 fourth quarter sent Glenbard North to the nonconference win at Hoffman Estates (5-18). Matt Pahl led the Hawks with 10 points and Austin Terry and Alex Bonds added 8 points apiece.

Streamwood 70, Elk Grove 49: Austin Amann scored 9 points to lead Elk Grove (5-20), which was outscored 30-14 in the second quarter and trailed 42-23 at halftime in the nonconference game at Streamwood.
