Huntley clinches share of FVC Valley

Huntley’s road warriors clinched at least a share of the title in the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference Tuesday night.

Led by a balanced scoring effort from junior Justin Frederick (14 points) and seniors Dylan Neukirch (13) and Tyler Brunschon (12), the Red Raiders (20-4, 8-1) completed a sweep of their five Valley road games with a 48-41 victory at McHenry (14-8, 2-5).

“It feels good,” said Huntley coach Marty Manning, whose program secured its first division title since winning the FVC Fox Division in 2006-07. “It’s nice to do it with this young of a group. I thought we’d have a good chance next year of the year after.

“The one thing I did say to them is that it’s a pretty good accomplishment to win all five road games in our conference.”

The Red Raiders led 21-17 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters. They sank all 7 of their free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to keep the Warriors at bay.

Huntley can win the title outright with a victory over Cary-Grove on Friday.
