Wheeling upsets St. Viator

Mid-Suburban East rivals Hersey (22-7) and Wheeling (4-25) will meet for the third time in today’s 6 p.m. semifinal of the Class 4A Zion-Benton regional.

That’s because No. 15-seeded Wheeling edged No. 17 St. Viator 45-41 in Tuesday night’s quarterfinal game in Zion.

Hersey stopped Wheeling 57-33 and 61-38 in league play this season.

St. Viator wrapped up its season at 13-17.

Fenwick 66, Schaumburg 42: Top-seeded Fenwick (25-4) advances to Friday’s championship of the Class 4A Hoffman Estates regional against the winner of today’s game between No. 8 Hoffman Estates (18-8) and No. 9 Oak Park-River Forest.

No. 16-seeded Schaumburg ended its season at 13-16.

New Trier 59, Maine West 29: No. 5 New Trier moved on to Thursday’s championship of Niles West Class 4A regional final against the host Wolves at 7:30 p.m.

Maine West finished its season at 12-20.
