ECC to present ‘Guys and Dolls’

The hustle and swing of a stylized 1940s-era New York City comes to life in “Guys and Dolls,” the Tony Award-winning musical performed by the Elgin Community College Musical Theatre, Feb. 18-27.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 18 and 25, and Saturdays, Feb. 19 and 26; and 3 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 20 and 27, in the ECC Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Based on two Damon Runyon short stories, “The Idyll of Sarah Brown” and “Blood Pressure,” “Guys and Dolls” overflows with popular showstoppers by Frank Loesser, including “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat.” The show captures the courtship of prim Salvation Army officer Sarah Brown and gambler Sky Masterson, and the tireless efforts by Nathan Detroit to find a site for his infamous crap game.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors. Tickets for all performances in the ECC Arts Center are available online at tickets.elgin.edu or at the ECC box office in the arts center. Box office hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To purchase tickets by phone, call (847) 622-0300. All major credit cards are accepted.
