Bus hijacked in NC; suspect taken into custody

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Greyhound spokeswoman says a suspect is in custody after he briefly hijacked a bus in North Carolina.

Greyhound spokeswoman Maureen Richmond said the bus was headed south on Interstate 85 from Richmond, Va., to Raleigh on Thursday. She says a passenger pulled a gun and ordered the driver to pull over and relinquish the bus.

She says the driver got off an exit and pulled the bus over at a gas station off U.S. 1 near Henderson about 45 miles north of Raleigh. The suspect was then taken into custody but she did not have details. She says the female driver and all the passengers got off safely with no injuries.

WRAL reported that law enforcement officers surrounded the bus and the suspect was hit with a stun gun and taken into custody. His identity was not immediately available.
