Lake-Cook Road ‘harrowing’

Driving was beyond a harrowing experience on a major thoroughfare for commuters in Lake and Cook counties shortly after the snow began tapering about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Westbound lanes on Lake-Cook Road past Arlington Heights Road were covered with mammoth snow drifts. Abandoned vehicles dotted the westbound side, bordering Lake County’s Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve, west toward Route 53.

Some drivers who could not use the westbound side of Lake-Cook took it upon themselves to go the wrong way in the eastbound lanes. Sections of eastbound Lake-Cook were similar to a slalom ski course because motorists had to periodically weave between abandoned

cars.
