Krishnamurthy: Des Plaines mayor loses bet with Bears loss

Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan will be sporting a Green Bay Packers jersey at the Feb. 7 city council meeting despite being a die-hard Chicago Bears fan.

That’s because Moylan lost a friendly wager with the mayor of Greenfield, Wis., a suburb of Milwaukee, after the Bears lost to the Packers in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.

“I already got the jersey,” Moylan said. “It was a good game. They won fair and square and now we’re going to support them. We’re backing the Packers in the Super Bowl.”

Honoring the bet, Moylan delivered his promised treats — Chicago-style hot dogs, and homemade Italian beef and Italian sausage sandwiches from Paradise Pup in Des Plaines — to the Greenfield mayor Thursday. He also picked up some squeaky cheese curds and string cheese for the city aldermen on his way back.

Acting City Manager Jason Slowinski, a lifelong Packers fan who was born and raised in a town near Wausau, Wis., was thrilled to rub in the victory.

“It was enjoyable to watch,” Slowinski said. “I’m glad my home team pulled it off.”
