Toews has a shot at being All-Star Game captain

Now that all 42 all-stars have been named, those players will be polled in the next week to select two captains, who will then choose sides for the Jan. 30 All-Star Game in Raleigh, N.C.

The fantasy draft, as the NHL is calling it, will take place Jan. 28.

Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has a chance to be one of the captains, although the likely choices are Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby and either Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom or Washington's Alex Ovechkin.

While the NHL might like to see Crosby and Ovechkin picking the teams, others believe the whole Winter Classic hype was enough of those two.

How about Daniel Sedin and twin brother Henrik picking the teams?

“If Toews is captain, I'll probably be the last guy he picks,” Patrick Kane joked Tuesday after being named an all-star with Patrick Sharp.

The four Hawks representatives could be split up among the two teams.

“I wouldn't mind going against Kaner,” Sharp said. “That little rat, I'd like to throw him into the glass. Then again, I wouldn't mind him seting me up for some goals.”

Byfuglien a star:

Atlanta's Dustin Byfuglien was named an all-star for the first time.

Byfuglien is in the middle of a great season for the Thrashers with his 16 goals and 41 points leading all defensemen.

“Buff texted me a month ago to pick it up,” Patrick Kane said. “We said, ‘We've got to get this going, this is going to be my one chance.' It'll be fun to see him.”

Payback time:

The Hawks have lost all three games this season to the Avs, who visit the United Center Wednesday night.

“Colorado has had our number here,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. “If you look at each and every game it all led to frustrating losses. The one that bothered us the most is the one in Colorado when it looked like we had something out of the game.”

The Hawks lost 7-5 at the Pepsi Center on Dec. 13, blowing a 5-4 lead in the final three minutes.

“They can make plays as good as any team,” Quenneville said. “They have quickness and speed and are dangerous on the attack. They've got four lines that can all skate, so the pace of our game coming out of the Islanders game is how we want to begin that game.”
