Hearing on 6th Ward candidates' objections resumes Thursday

The Des Plaines electoral board will reconvene at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13 to hear objections to the candidacy of Richard Hissong, and at 2:30 p.m. to hear objections to the candidacy of Mario Palacios, both running for the 6th Ward alderman seat in the April 5 consolidated election.

On Monday, the Cook County Clerk's office verified signatures of registered voters Palacios' and Hissong's petitions after questions were raised about their validity.

Last week the electoral board removed another candidate for the 6th Ward over discrepancies in his nominating papers. Candidate Cliff Matthews was dismissed over apparent errors in his petition, including unnumbered pages, improper binding and questionable signatures.

Hearings of the electoral board — made up of Mayor Marty Moylan, City Clerk Gloria Ludwig and 8th Ward Alderwoman Rosemary Argus — are held in Room 102 of City Hall, 1420 Miner St.

A fourth candidate for the 6th Ward seat, incumbent Alderman Mark Walsten, has no objectors.
