Batavia delays Mooseheart sewer vote

Action on redrawing the boundary for sewage treatment responsibilities for the proposed Mooseheart annexation has been postponed.

The Batavia City Council was scheduled to vote on it Monday, but decided instead to have it vetted by its public utilities committee Feb. 8.

Council members wanted more time to research the proposal and answer questions from residents.

Moose International is asking Batavia to annex almost 500 acres along Randall Road, from Main Street to Mooseheart Road, and designate it for commercial, office and residential development. The site lies in the planning area for Batavia's sewage treatment plant, which the state Environmental Protection Agency recently warned is near capacity. Batavia could not serve the portion of the site south of Mill Creek without expanding its sewage treatment plant, according to city officials.

So, Batavia is looking to shift the land south of Mill Creek into the Fox Metro Water Reclamation District. It involves parcels E, F, G and H on the project plans. Parcel E is designated for high-density single-family housing; E and F, for general commercial use; and H, for medium density multifamily housing.

Fox Metro is amenable to taking the sewage.
